Satellite 走敢若飛
3:42 Video, 2019
Satellite is a visual experiment that examines the role of citizens under the surveillance of a digitally managed society where governmental investment and mega enterprises are involved in a huge amount of data collection. Citizens often live in a struggle between privacy disclosure and a lifestyle of convenience.
The artist made a long pole connecting a camera with their body and walked around the city of San Francisco, in order to observe their own behaviors and the behaviors of those around them. By making their wearable satellite, a symbol of technological development and mass data collection, the artist attempts to gain image ownership. Additionally, their openly performative body makes the data collection action publicly visible again. The work is questioning the possibility of democracy during the contemporary E-governmental era.
