Photography Without Camera is an annual exhibition curated by Sang Chi Liu. This exhibition series aims to critique the role of the camera in contemporary art, as well as its use as a tool of everyday documentary, surveillance, and investigation. The photograph as a physical object has been surrounded by the discourse of its material nature, but photography can be more than the material itself. This exhibition focuses on the concepts that photographs bring to us in the contemporary moment.  Sang Chi encourages artists to view photography as a concept in order to escape the restriction of photographic materials, and to create new ways of thinking about how documentary visual culture has been formed and constructed.
